How to Build a Korean Skincare Routine That Suits Your Skin

1 min read

Your skin doesn't need more products. It needs the right ones.

Korean skincare is known for clever ingredients and lovely textures, but the choice can feel endless. You don't need a 10-step routine to get the benefits. Here's how to build one that fits your skin.

1. Start with the basics

Before serums and masks, get three things right: cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen.

A gentle cleanser clears the day without leaving skin tight. A moisturiser keeps skin comfortable and helps the barrier hold moisture. Sunscreen goes on every morning. Once those feel right, add one targeted product at a time.

2. Work out what your skin wants

Start with how your skin feels, not with what's popular. Is it:

  • dry and tight?
  • sensitive or easily irritated?
  • dull?
  • oily or congested?
  • uneven in tone?
  • oily on top but tight underneath?

Your answer tells you which ingredients and product types to look at first.

3. Add one new product at a time

It's tempting to swap your whole routine the moment you find K-beauty. If you change five things at once, you won't know which one your skin liked, or didn't. Add one product, give it a couple of weeks, then decide.

4. Don't skip hydration

Comfortable, well-hydrated skin looks smoother and fresher. That's why hyaluronic acid, glycerin, panthenol and ferments turn up in so many Korean formulas. Oily and combination skin needs water too, just in lighter textures.

5. Adjust with the seasons

Your skin changes with the weather, stress and travel. A cream you love in winter may feel heavy in summer, and skin often wants something calming after a long day outdoors. The aim isn't a perfect routine. It's knowing your skin well enough to change things when it needs something different.

Find your three

We choose every product with one aim: helping you find skincare that suits you. If you'd like a starting point, the Skin MBTI quiz gives you three in about three minutes.

Korean corner: 하늘하늘 (ha-neul-ha-neul) means "light and airy", the feeling of a good summer moisturiser.
